Understanding Print Dimensions
Most of our prints are created on 22x17 inch archival matte or glossy finish paper which has an aspect ratio of 1.29:1. However, the actual aspect ratio of the artwork itself varies from one image to another. This means that, in most cases, the image will have different sized margins on at least two sides. Just like when you watch a widescreen movie on a standard definition 4:3 television set, the final image will be “letterboxed” onto the paper so as to maximize the size of the image without cropping out any part of it. Most prints are generated in “gallery format” which means that there is an even margin on the top, left, and right side of the print and a larger margin at the bottom of the print (see diagram below). If you would prefer your image to be printed centered on the print, please include a note indicating this when placing your order.
